New Walter Knoll showroom opening in Beijing



With over ten years of experience on the Chinese market, Walter Knoll has opened a new showroom in Beijing. An impressive new building totalling over 500 square metres was created in a prime site on the edge of the Chaoyang Park in the city centre. Reflecting the corporate architecture, it is very much reminiscent of the Walter Knoll headquarters in the southern German town of Herrenberg. Transparency and clarity – the structure resembles a striking clasp covered in titanium zinc sheet holding a glass cube. Inside, the showroom with premium interiors for both the living and contract market.

The opening took place on the evening of 6 September 2013. More than 200 guests were in attendance – including Chinese and German representatives of business and politics, architecture and interior design, culture and media. MC for the evening was Britta Heidemann, who won an Olympic gold in fencing for Germany at the Peking games in 2008; representatives of the Germany Embassy in Beijing as well as the chamber of foreign trade conveyed messages of welcome.

“True values”: in his keynote speech, Markus Benz, CEO of Walter Knoll, presented both the company and its philosophy. “China is a country with an understanding of modern architecture and design and is a growth market. It is currently enjoying increasing prosperity, shows considerable appreciation of design and quality, and is also host to a number of international luxury and lifestyle brands. And we want to make good use of this development. With our new showroom, we want to further increase the presence of and the understanding for the Walter Knoll brand in China.”
